Saline Procedures Anesthesia

It is perfectly natural to feel nervous about surgery.

We offer a wide range of anesthesia techniques to eliminate discomfort and control anxiety. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that your experience will be as pleasant as possible.

What Anesthesia Options Are Available?

All surgery is performed under appropriate anesthesia to maximize your comfort. The method of anesthesia is determined by the nature of the procedure and your level of apprehension. Anesthesia options, as well as any potential risks, will be discussed with you prior to your procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

If you are facing significant anxiety over your oral procedure, we offer nitrous oxide, more commonly called “laughing gas.” Nitrous oxide can be a great way to take the edge off and calm your nerves before a procedure, or simply to help you feel more comfortable before IV sedation is administered.

IV Sedation/General Anesthesia

Our practice recommends IV sedation for most procedures. This option entails medication being continuously directed into your veins, allowing you to be totally asleep during your surgery. Not only does this allow you to avoid discomfort, but it also prevents any awareness or memory of what the procedure is like.

Who Provides Anesthesia During My Procedure?

Our doctor is extensively trained in promoting patient safety and well-being during the administration of anesthesia. Our phlebotomy-trained surgical assistants often insert the IV, but the doctor always administers and manages the anesthesia itself.

Where Will My Sedation Occur?

Most procedures are performed at our office, where each private treatment room is equipped with state-of-the-art anesthesia monitoring technology. Not only does this offer comfort and convenience, but it also helps minimize the cost of oral surgical care.

How Should I Prepare For My Sedation?

If you require IV sedation, we ask that you avoid eating or drinking anything for eight hours before the surgery. This prevents food from your stomach getting stuck in your lungs during the surgery, which can result in dangerous complications.

Some medications can adversely interact with anesthesia, increasing your risk of bleeding. Your doctor will let you know in advance if there are any medications or supplements that you need to discontinue, but otherwise, you can continue taking your medications as normal.

Your safety is our top priority, and as such, we always want to know if you experience a sore throat or other respiratory issues prior to surgery. The physiological effects of a respiratory infection can pose serious risks during surgery, and it may be in your best interests to postpone the procedure until your body is fully healed.

If you undergo IV sedation, you are not allowed to drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours after surgery. Make sure you bring someone along who can give you a safe ride home.

After surgery, we will carefully monitor your recovery, ensuring that you wake up without issue. You will remain in our recovery room long enough for us to confirm your well-being and for your doctor to review the surgery results. By the time you are discharged to head home, you can expect to be awake but perhaps a little groggy. This should subside within 24 hours or so.
